Sakhi Kendra is a Non-Governmental Organisation founded in 1982 under the able leadership of Ms. Neelam Chaturvedi, intending to empower women and establish gender equality in society. In its 38 years of journey, Sakhi Kendra has dedicatedly worked and has achieved immeasurable milestones.
Here's a brief glimpse of our work in the form of this documentary.
WHY WOMEN AND GIRLS?
Sakhi Kendra is an organization that focuses on empowering women and girls in India. We believe that women and girls are predominantly affected by poverty and discrimination in our society. They often suffer exploitation, abuse and violations of their rights, entitlements and dignity. They also face barriers and challenges when they want to access and control resources that can improve their lives.
Over many years of fighting for gender equality, we at Sakhi Kendra have learned that women have the potential to transform their families and communities. When they are equipped with the proper resources and awareness, they can overcome poverty, marginalisation and social injustice. They can also contribute to the development and well-being of their society. That is why we are committed to supporting and empowering women and girls through our various programs and initiatives.
Our Journey So Far
5 years of rigorous work for justice and prevention of violence against women gave birth to 'Sachi Kendra'
Sakhi Kendra was formed with Uttar Pradesh's first capacity building training program, counselling and library.
For the livelihood of victims and sheltered women, self made goods like Herbal shampoo, dye, screen printing, lunch packets(to mill workers) were sold.
